Ski Arlberg Guide

The resort Ski Arlberg is regarded as the largest ski area in the Austrian Alps that was repeatedly awarded as "Top Resort Winter". Situated in the states of Vorarlberg and Tyrol, it comprises two parts - Arlberg East and Arlberg West. The slopes stretch for the villages of St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech, Oberlech, and Zürs. All of them are connected and can be reached with a gondola lift. Thus, there are 303 km of slopes and 200 km of ski routes as well as a total of 88 lifts at guests' disposal. The season 2020/2021 lasts from December 4, 2020, to April 25, 2021.

Ski Arlberg has the oceanic climate prevailing. The best time to visit the resort is from June until August when the temperature is warmer and there is little rainfall. In winter, the resort turns into a snow and sports paradise that has enjoyed an international reputation thanks to the Alpine World Ski Championships which were held here in 2001. The average temperature in winter is -2°C, in summer - +18°C. It is dry for 196 days a year with an average humidity of 75%.

Keeping guests healthy in the Ski Arlberg due to coronavirus

Starting from November 3, 2020, Austria, and the Tirol region in particular, is subject to travel warnings from Germany, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, and Norway. For France (including Paris, the regions Île de France, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), Russia, and the Czech Republic, entering Austria is only possible with a negative COVID 19 test. Tighter measures will remain until 30.11.2020. The new winter season is going to start on 4 December 2020 as planned. Here are clear rules that apply in leisure facilities, cable cars, lifts, buildings, and mountain restaurants:

● Visitors must wear face masks or coverings, as well as bandanas, multifunctional scarves, buffs, ski masks in all cable car/lift buildings (ticket offices, entrance and exit areas, toilets, etc.), in queuing areas, and on all cable car/lift journeys (tow lifts, chair lifts, aerial cableways, mono cable gondola lifts, etc.).
● There are info points and signs with information about the coronavirus safeguards and sufficient hand disinfection facilities in cable car/lift buildings and cable car/lift entrance areas.
● There are no restrictions in terms of passenger numbers. However, this may be necessary at short notice and is therefore subject to change without notice.
● All WC facilities, cable car cabins, ticket offices, and other similar facilities are cleaned and disinfected regularly. To ensure adequate ventilation, the windows will be permanently open when the lifts are enclosed.
● Employees in contact with visitors at the lifts and cable cars are instructed to wear a face mask. Also, they are tested for COVID-19 before starting work for the first time. Regular follow-up tests and testing on-demand are planned.
● Visitors in the Arlberg are can purchase a ski pass online at www.starjack.at and skiarlberg.at or on-site from over 250 hotels and guesthouses participating in the hotel ski pass sale network. The ski passes bought online can then be collected on-site at pickup boxes and vending machines at these locations: Nassereinbahn, Rendlbahn, St. Christoph and Rauz, Trittkopfbahn, Rüfikopfbahn, and Schlosskopfbahn. It is possible to become a member of the Golden Moments Club and use the direct-to-lift system.
● Contactless payment with most smartphone payment systems at the ski pass ticket offices is possible and recommended.
● There are distance markers placed in the buildings.
● Holidaymakers in the Arlberg resorts are recommended to download the "STOP CORONA" APP of the Austrian Red Cross at roteskreuz.at. The APP automatically registers other people as contacts if the minimum physical distance is not complied with. If you or any of these persons have been infected with the coronavirus, all contacts are informed completely anonymously.

How to get to Ski Arlberg

For those who travel by car, it is possible to use the following routes:

● Via Salzburg - Kufstein - Innsbruck - Landeck - to St. Anton am Arlberg
● Via Munich - Fern Pass - Landeck - to St. Anton am Arlberg
● Via Stuttgart - Bregenz - Feldkirch - Bludenz - Arlbergpass or Arlberg tunnel - to St. Anton am Arlberg
● Via Zürich - St. Gallen or Sargans, Feldkirch - Bludenz - Arlbergpass/Arlberg tunnel to St. Anton am Arlberg

Please note that there is a road tax sticker "Vignette" in Austria. It is obligatory for driving on motorways and on the S16. You can purchase it at the border, at petrol stations, and in many "Trafik". There are 3 types of tax sticker: 10-days, 2-months, 1-year. The "Vignette" sticker prices begin at 9.40 euros for 10 days for a car and range up to 89.20 euros for a full year. Motorcycles also require vignettes.

Also, it is easy to travel by train. St. Anton am Arlberg is a Railjet- and Eurocity station. The main station is located in the center of St. Anton. All important international express trains, including Venice-Simplon Orient-Express, stop here.
